First, allow us to introduce you to Unexplored India, a subdivision of Indiahikes
Unexplored India is the hidden side of us at Indiahikes that no one knows. Everyone sees us as trekkers. They assume we are 24 hours in the world of treks. Yes, it is largely true, but there is another side to us. A side that loves to explore the unexplored side of our country. We like to experience the history, the heritage, and the culture of our country in a very immersive way. For example, we like to see a temple and understand its architecture from a design perspective. We like to know the several stories around its history.
We like to go to unseen, untouched places and experience the beauty of our land. But not the crowd. We want to do it in a deeply immersive way: travel by bus, by train, and by ferry. We like to be with the locals and see our land from their perspective. We like to eat their food and hear their stories. We don't want to burn our pockets or see things in a touristy way. We are not looking for luxury hotels, but we would love to stay by the beach, perhaps in a tent or a quiet homestay. This is Unexplored India. This is us. Welcome to our way of seeing our country.
Our first journey begins in Udupi, our own home ground on the coast of Karnataka.
Most people know Udupi for one or two things: the Udupi Krishna Temple and its famous neer dosas. But honestly, this is not the Udupi we know. Being from coastal Karnataka ourselves, we know there is so much more to Udupi, and it's a tragedy that people don't see this side of the town.
Here is an Unexplored Udupi trip that we have designed to help you discover Udupi unconventionally, learn about the mangroves, rare beaches, hidden temples, and delectable cuisine.
Experiences we have in store for you
- Kayak through the mangroves at Delta Point
- Visit the iconic St. Mary’s Island: Experience clear waters and unique rock formations.
- Step into the ancient history and culture of the Jain temples of Karkala.
- Experience Udupi food the way locals cook it.
- Of course, we cannot wrap it up without a sunset at the beach
Your Stay, A Beachside Homestay
We have chosen a traditional beachside homestay for your trip. With a sloping red roof made of iconic Mangalore tiles, it takes you right back to ancient Karnataka.
- The home opens to the beach; with a few steps, you can step into the water, just a few steps, and you’re in the sea.
- Wake up to birds, coconut groves and salty air.
- Eat fresh home-cooked coastal meals
- Experience a traditional Karnataka home, known for its climate-responsive architecture
Please note: It is a secluded homestay, where 2-5 people share rooms. Accommodation will be separate for men and women.
