In such cases, Indiahikes will make every effort to offer you a safe alternative trek. However, if you would like to receive a full refund of your fee under such circumstances, opt for the Indiahikes Shield while registering. This shield grants you the option to receive a refund in case your trek is cancelled due to external reasons.

a. A high-altitude trek, even one that has been classified as an easy trek, puts a lot of pressure on your heart. When you are over a certain age, the risk that comes with the stress can be life-threatening. We have noticed that many trekkers above the age of 58 come with a history of high BP. This shows on the trek. For some of you, it can result in serious complications with the heart. This can be prevented with a simple test before the start of the trek.
b. The Treadmill Test will give all of us a clear picture of whether your cardiovascular system is ready to take on the challenges of the trek. This along with the fitness preparation will give you a higher chance of a successful and safe trek.
c. We believe that everyone must trek but we also believe in trekking safely. We have brought in this protocol to enhance your safety on the trek and to ensure a successful trek.
d. We need you to send us this report within 7 days of registering for the trek If the report shows that you have good cardiovascular health, you can continue with the trek. What you will now need to focus on is the fitness preparation for your trek.
e. On the other hand, if there are concerns with the result of the report, we will get back to you with the recommendation of working on your health before you apply again. In this case, we will refund your trek amount to you.
- I have carefully read and understood the provisions and legal consequences of this agreement, and I hereby agree to all of its conditions. I agree that if any portion of this agreement is found to be void or unenforceable, the remaining portions shall remain in full force and effect.
- I understand that in calculating the cost of the trek, Indiahikes has relied on my consent to these terms and their enforceability. Without this agreement, Indiahikes would not be able to offer these services. I agree that the execution of electronic transmission of this agreement shall be deemed execution of the original agreement.
- It is my responsibility to obtain information and have all the necessary documents for my trek/ trip, including passports, visas, and any other required paperwork.
- I understand that I may be asked to show the documents during my travel or on the trek by officials. Indiahikes is not responsible for my failure to show the documents required.
- Indiahikes is also not responsible for any loss, theft or damage to my travel documents.
- I hereby voluntarily provide my Personal ID (latest Aadhaar card or Passport) to Indiahikes for the limited and specific purposes of identity verification, obtaining trek permits, and fulfilling administrative requirements directly related to my participation in the trek. I understand that Indiahikes shall use this information only for the stated purposes and in compliance with applicable laws and guidelines. I acknowledge that Indiahikes is responsible for ensuring the confidentiality and lawful processing of my personal data. I may withdraw this consent at any time before the use of my personal information by providing written notice.
I accept the Indiahikes Cancellation Policy as follows:
The Indiahikes Standard Cancellation Policy
- Smoking, drinking, or consumption of any intoxicating substance is not permitted on an Indiahikes trek. i. Any sexual misconduct towards fellow trekkers, Indiahikes team members, or others
ii. Not adhering to the trek rules (which are laid out for everyone equally) or the trek leaders' instructions
iii. Physically and verbally aggressive/abusive towards fellow trekkers or Indiahikes team members. Which can constitute these actions:
a. If bad words/profanity are used in arguments
b. If threats are made towards Indiahikes team members or any trekker

d. If you physically push/shove any trekker

Why Send Your Child on a Trekking Summer Camp?
Our Himalayan Trekking Summer Camps are specially designed outdoor programme for children aged 10–14. They become a lot more than treks. They become journeys that shape character, nurture independence, and help children discover a deeper connection with nature.
We can hardly think of another programme that combines the adventure of trekking with the life lessons of outdoor living in quite the same way. A regular summer holiday might entertain, but it rarely transforms. A Himalayan Trekking Summer Camp does. It brings together adventure, learning, and fun in a way that children remember for years.
We also have special Adventurous Journey programmes for 15–17-year-olds. They are perfect for completing the IAYP/Duke of Edinburgh Silver or Gold Award requirement. Just choose groups tagged ‘Adventurous Journey'.
The journey begins the moment children put on their backpacks and take their first steps on the trail. The path winds through whispering forests, filled with sunlight and bird calls. Sometimes the trail opens into meadows where children can run freely; sometimes it climbs gently uphill, teaching patience and perseverance. At every turn, the Himalayas reveal a new surprise — a stream to splash in, a patch of wildflowers, or a wide view of snow-dusted peaks in the distance.
At the campsites, children learn how to pitch their tents, roll out sleeping bags, and make the tent their little home for the night. They help in cooking simple, healthy meals and learn how to clean up responsibly. Evenings are filled with group activities, storytelling, and reflection circles. It is here, under the starry skies, that children discover the joy of living simply — away from gadgets, but closer to themselves.
But these summer camps are not only about trekking or camping. It is about the small yet powerful moments of growth. A child who was shy on her first day finds her voice in group discussions. Another who struggled on the uphill climb beams with pride at reaching a viewpoint. Children learn to share responsibilities, to support each other, and to step up as leaders in their own way.
At Indiahikes, we have conducted these summer camps for many years. Over 8,000 children have trekked with us, and each time we have seen them return with a glow of confidence and joy that is hard to miss. Our Trek Leaders — trained mountaineers and Wilderness First Responders — act not just as guides but also as mentors. They ensure safety while gently nudging children to take responsibility and explore their potential.
We’ve seen the impact year after year. Children return from the summer camp standing taller, speaking more confidently, and looking at challenges differently. It’s a transformation that stays with them. Not just for a few weeks, but for life.
Out there in the mountains, they discover something within themselves — strength, kindness, courage — things they didn’t even know they had. Let them go on that journey. You’ll be surprised by who they come back as.
What do Children Learn at the Indiahikes Himalayan Trekking Summer Camp
Trekking and Camping Skills Children pick up the basics of living in the outdoors. They learn to pitch tents, cook simple meals, and even build shelters if they have to. They practice navigation, first aid, and how to cross streams safely. Slowly, the mountains teach them to trust themselves.
Nature Skills The forest becomes their classroom. They spot birds and animals, watch the stars and Milky Way, and record their discoveries in journals. Walking through ancient forests and hearing stories of the Himalayas, they begin to feel at home in nature.
Sustainability Skills Our Green Trails initiative shows children how to trek responsibly. They clean trails, manage waste, and even build composting toilets. By living simply in the mountains, they understand what it means to leave no trace — and to give back more than they take.
Life Skills and Behaviours This is where the real change happens. Standing on a summit, children feel a quiet confidence they’ve never felt before. They learn to work with others, take responsibility, and face hardships with courage. These are lessons that don’t fade — they stay for life.

When we dropped our 11-year-old daughter at the airport on May 4th for her first solo Himalayan trek with Indiahikes, we knew it would be an adventure—but we didn’t realise how transformational it would be for her.
She had done a trek with us earlier, but this time she was on her own—with an 8 kg backpack, sharing tents with other girls, and braving both sunshine and sudden mountain rains. On the first day itself, she had to climb 1,500 feet to reach an altitude of nearly 9,300 feet—a steep ascent made even more challenging by thin mountain air.
With time, beautiful things happened along the way.
She formed deep bonds with complete strangers—trek mates who cheered each other on, picked up trail trash together, and zipped each other’s sleeping bags. She learned lessons about resilience, nature, and responsibility—things no classroom could have taught.
And yesterday, when we picked her up at the airport, she surprised me with a little gift & a letter for Mother’s Day. Her eyes sparkled as she shared stories of courage, friendships, and small moments of wonder—experiences I haven’t had even as an adult.
This trek reminded us that we all live in carefully built cocoons. But life truly begins outside that shell. Yes, she came back with a minor bruise—but also with major lessons. And perhaps a new layer of wisdom.
Japanese educator & philosopher Daisaku Ikeda said that the purpose of education must be to nurture the kind of people who can think and act independently, who can overcome hardships and live in a truly human manner.
I believe this trek will be a lifelong chapter in her education—not just as a student, but as a human being.
PS - A big thank you to the Indiahikes team for the care, compassion, and spirit they bring to these journeys. You’ve helped shape a young life in the most meaningful way.

"She seems to be physically more strong and mentally strong as-well , she's more confident and she now has because a big talker with her endless stories of the trek!
I would highly recommend the summer camp if you want your child to have amazing memories. The trek will teach them lessons they would have never been able to learn in school. They get taught resilience, confidence and discipline by the great mountains. As in for their safety the trek leaders and the assistant trekkers will make sure that they will the best to times of their lives without any major accidents!
My child always dreamt of trekking in the Himalayas, we were waiting for the perfect opportunity for her to get going either her passion and with the right safety measures and guidance by Indiahikes her dream came true."
"The changes I noticed in my child - Habits, mature, thinking out of the box, social, speaking skills. Please don't think twice to send your child, trust the Indiahikes team, trust their processes and personnel.
You will see a new version of your child when they return. Listen to your child's stories when they return home, you will just be mesmerised by what they have achieved.
This is a huge learning opportunity, being close to nature, being social, learn to coordinate, cooperate and manage themselves and their requirements."
"She is more conscious about her surroundings. You should definitely send your children to the summer camp because there are so many things these children learn that we can not teach them.. How the team takes care of the children like their own! The tastiest food they make.. Every small thing about nature is told. About the trees, insects, stars and much more... So I would highly recommend sending your children to this summer camp"
"The biggest statement he made is "nothing is impossible if we work hard...." He was afraid of trekking the peak, but he has done it... I had sent him to find himself and face the challenges independently"
"He seems to have "grown up" in 8 days! Feels more mature. And seems more open or eager to help with small tasks. Confidence levels, too.
If you are someone wondering if you should send your child - YES, yes, and yes!!!! Please do this at least once in your life (if not more) for your child. It would be one of the best "gifts" you could give them!!"
I was keen that he should experience the mountains (as I had when I was his...trekking in the dark ages! :p), that he should experience adventure and nature with kids his age (and sans parents), figuring out how to do everything on his own, independence, resilience to the kind of "hardships" that he could possibly encounter, a test of physical endurance, a "vacation" from screens and city life, life in the raw, forge new friendships, learn life skills, learn about trees, birds, flowers... "
"I have noticed changes in them after the summer camp. They are more sensitive towards not wasting food. They are also able to make decisions by themselves. To prepare your child's move from home to the world, this is one of the best experiences that a parent can provide."
He has become super enthusiastic, proud and confident about adventures. He feels more confident about himself. This helps children develop confidence, understand and appreciate nature, develop communication and sharing skills and learn to survive better. I just wanted my kid to learn to appreciate nature and get strong in mind and body."
"My child seems to have become a lot more mature and a lot more independent. Also, more confident about accomplishing. It's a great opportunity to let your child learn about themselves. It has enough of a safety net while still allowing them to spread their wings and become closer to who they want to be. To learn to appreciate the beauty of nature, learn to problem-solve independently and to have a lot of fun while doing that."
"He is more confident in explaining his thoughts, and I would say with confidence to other parents to send their kids without doubt. He liked camping, and through my trekking experience with Indiahikes, I wanted my son to feel the same serene connection with nature and a lifetime memories."
"My child is:
1. Better in confidence
2. Physical fitness
3. Slight improvement in social behaviour
4. Inclination to redo the trek and more"
I strongly recommend Indiahikes and this trek as an innovative way to help children develop more life skills, understand how to live frugally and make them live independently. Being a parent of a single child, we have found this trek and the decision to send him, a positive milestone for our child. It’s safe and is like sending the child together with our own family.
I sent my child to:
1. Develop Independent living
2. Develop Discipline
3. Acquire Life skills
4. Get accustomed to alien living conditions
5. Stay and live amidst nature
6. Make new friends and relationships
7. Feel proud but aim higher and make it better"
There has a noticeable change in confidence. I witnessed a major shift, Advay feared dogs, however now that fear has gone after trek. He shared couple of incidents of trek. This fearlessness has led him to venture alone and be more active. Physical skills has shown improvement too, he has started going for walks in the night which he would not do earlier. He was very apprehensive before the trek but after trek I saw him doing simple things like, going to cafeteria alone, filling up the bottles, talking to strangers , taking initiatives in little chores.
Also, he played with Indiahikes team Table Tennis especially Shamil Sir, He has developed a liking for the game."
This was just not another summer camp. It was very experiential, well planned, geared towards learning and exposing the child to wonderful nature. The camp helps to connect with oneself, it teaches many things deliberately and many things so subtly.
To experience, silence, to forming bonds and teaching qualities like, empathy, kindness, helping, sharing and endurance, the summer camp gives you all.
Sometimes, little gestures, anecdotes, attitude of others changes you. One has to go through the experience to feel it. The summer camp gives you that mindfulness experience. Observing the trek leaders, their guidance and disposition really brought appreciation of wonderful qualities."
"I sent my child to the summer camp because- It started with a very simple reason of giving confidence to my child. As I visited the India Hikes website, the reasons turned to be of giving an experience which I thought I would not be able to give. To give him a feel of nature, the quietness, the beauty, , the trees, woods, feeling of scaling up.
It was a more personal reason as Advay has been losing eyesight, I wanted him to have memories and experiences which he will cherish. The feeling of being between the deodars, sleeping in the open and experience the mountains and the scenery around.
I just hoped him to have a safe, good time,
between nature , manage himself on his own as he was venturing into something unknown.
Expectation - Started with very basic expectation of having a good, safe time and learn about trekking."
"She is managing things independently, doesn’t hesitate to go out and meet completely unknown people. Her social skills have definitely improved. I would say - please send your kids, will help them to stay away from gadgets, kind of detoxify and connect with nature. With Indiahikes, your kid is in safe hands.
She has been to Dayara Bugyal with Indiahikes last year and was very keen to go to another camp this year (and will go for another one next year as well). Our idea for sending her to camp was to send her away from hustle and bustle of city, enjoy nature, make friends with unknowns and become more independent."

IMPORTANT POINTS
➤ Where our Programme Unfolds: This year we are running our Himalayan Trekking Summer Camp Programme across the three iconic locations of Dayara Bugyal (base: Raithal), Kuari Pass (base: Karchi) and Ali Bedni Bugyal (base: Lohajung) in Uttarakhand. The itinerary may slightly vary from one location to the other, but this is a typical example to give you a general idea of the 9-day itinerary.
➤Documents required: It is mandatory for children to carry a copy of their photo ID for entry at forest check posts on the trek.
➤ Pick-up time and punctuality: Children must be on time for the pick-up at Dehradun. Delays will not be entertained. It affects the whole day's plan. Please reach Dehradun the previous night, if required.
➤ Packing snacks for the trek: Children will be given healthy food with a good variety, including plenty of trail snacks. Yet, if you're sending snacks along, ensure no plastic waste is generated. This is a plastic-free trek. Encourage zero-waste snacks.
➤ A note on staying facilities: Children will be staying in tents throughout the summer camp. These are expedition-grade tents that keep them safe in all weather conditions. There is no bathing facility on the trek.
1. Trekking and Camping Skills
This is where children discover independence in the outdoors. The trek is designed to give them hands-on experience in survival basics — from building shelters and cooking to navigation and campsite selection. These skills make them resourceful and confident in unfamiliar situations.
- Building a shelter using minimal resources
- First aid training through mock drills
- Navigation using maps and GPS tools
- Choosing and setting up campsites
- Cooking in the outdoors
- Crossing mountain streams safely
2. Nature Skills
Being in the heart of the Himalayas, children interact directly with forests, wildlife, and night skies. They don’t just learn about nature; they live it. This immersive exposure deepens their curiosity, observation, and respect for the natural world.
- Observe forests, plants, and wildlife up close
- Identify birds and animals endemic to the region
- Experience the stars and Milky Way in pristine skies
- Maintain a nature journal
- Immerse themselves in the forest ecosystem
- Witness the grand Himalayan ranges and hear the stories behind them
3. Sustainability Skills
Through our Green Trails initiative, children experience what it means to live minimally and responsibly. From trail clean-ups to learning waste management, they understand the importance of leaving the outdoors better — lessons they carry back home.
- Adopt minimal living by interacting with remote mountain communities
- Participate in trail clean-ups and learn to leave the mountains better
- Learn the value of conserving natural resources
- Understand waste management — including segregation and composting
- Learn to build and use composting toilets in the wild
4. Life Skills and Behaviours
Perhaps the most lasting change happens here. Within a week, children begin showing qualities like resilience, teamwork, ownership, and confidence. These life skills go far beyond trekking — they shape who children become as adults.
- Gain deep-rooted confidence after climbing to a summit
- Learn to endure and grow through hardships
- Build emotional and physical resilience
- Develop teamwork and collaboration skills
- Take ownership and share responsibilities
- Learn to navigate and resolve healthy conflicts
- Improve interpersonal communication and social awareness

Soon, children come across a cluster of ancient cypress trees, so huge it would take four people to wrap around one — perfect for a big group hug. A short deviation leads to the Latu Devta temple, where ringing the bell is believed to bring protection on the trek. From here, a 30–45 minute climb takes them to Ranaka Dhar ridge, with views of Wan, Lohajung and the valley below.
A gentle descent leads to the iconic Neel Ganga, where a wooden bridge and cool, tumbling waters offer a refreshing pause. The trail then begins a steady climb through oak and rhododendron forests, with dry leaves crunching underfoot and birds like flycatchers and magpies flitting about. After about three hours of walking, a clearing with a small green hut opens up to the magnificent view of Mt Trishul. This is Gehroli Patal, your child's first campsite.
Day 4: Explore Gehroli Patal
Gehroli Patal has trails winding gently through oak and rhododendron forests, with dry leaves crackling underfoot like a natural carpet. Children may notice walnut and pear trees, Himalayan roses, and even spot birds like magpies or playful flycatchers. On a clear day, the towering Mt Trishul rises above the landscape, adding to the magic of the walk.
An acclimatisation day means children get the chance to rest and let their bodies adjust to the mountains. The day is light and playful, with team-building activities that bring laughter, teamwork and exploration. The forest and campsite turn into a safe, open classroom where every moment is a chance to learn and have fun.
Day 5: Trek from Gehroli Patal to Abin Kharak via Bedni Top
Trek Distance: 5.6 km | Trek Duration: 5-6 hours | Altitude gain: 10,350 ft to 11,145 ft via 12,550 ft
The day begins with a steep climb through oak and rhododendron forests, crossing the tree line to reach the vast meadows of Bedni Bugyal. Just ahead lies the serene Bedni Kund, and a short walk of 800 metres takes children to Bedni Top, the highest point of the trek, with grand views of Mt Trishul and Mt Nanda Ghunti.
The weather here changes quickly, with sunshine giving way to clouds or sudden rain, so raincoats must stay handy. From the top, the trail descends to meet the main Roopkund route before turning towards Ali Bugyal. This gentle walk across rolling grasslands brings magical sights — clouds drifting like waves and horses with their foals running free across the meadows. On the ridge, tucked in a small depression, lies Abin Kharak, the campsite for the night.
Day 6: Explore Abin Kharak
Today, children will see the vast, rolling meadows of Abin Kharak stretching in every direction. Children can slip off their shoes to feel the soft grass under their feet and enjoy the endless green ridges carved out of the mountainside.
This is also an acclimatisation day, giving their bodies time to adjust to the altitude while leaving plenty of space for exploration and play. Fun team-building activities are woven into the day, helping children bond, work together, and soak in the magic of these high mountain meadows.
Day 7: Trek from Abin Kharak to Tithak via Ali Top
Trek Distance: 5.7 km | Trek Duration: 5 hours | Altitude loss: 11,145 ft to 10,515 ft via 11,600 ft
Morning at Abin Kharak begins with wide, rolling meadows that feel like a soft green carpet — perfect for slipping off shoes and running barefoot. From the ridge, acres of grasslands spread in every direction. The day’s walk explores Abin Kharak before heading to Tithak.
A short climb from camp leads to stone huts and a mound with the first grand view of Mt Chaukhamba, tall and striking against the horizon. Walking further across the undulating meadows, children are surrounded by endless stretches of grassland with thick forests lining both sides. At Ali Top, the highest point of the day, Mt Trishul and Mt Nanda Ghunti stand close, making this one of the most scenic parts of the trek.
From here, the trail loops back past a shepherd’s hut, then dips into a dense forest. A slow 2 km walk under tall trees brings the group to Tithak, a quiet forest clearing and the campsite for the night.
Day 8: Trek from Tithak to Wan. Drive from Wan to Lohajung.
Trek Distance: 7 km | Trek Duration: 6 hours | Altitude loss: 10,515 ft to 7,550 ft | Drive Distance: 6 km | Drive Duration: 35 mins
The trail begins with a steep zig-zag descent from Tithak, bringing children to Gehroli Patal within a short walk. From here, they retrace the path back towards Wan, moving through oak and rhododendron forests.
It’s a long descent of over 3,000 ft, which can feel tiring on the legs, so trek poles help ease the strain. By afternoon, around 2–3 pm, the team reaches Lohajung, completing their journey through the meadows and forests.
Day 9: Drive from Lohajung to Dehradun
Drive Distance: 275 km | Drive Duration: 8-9 hours | Drop off time at Dehradun: 3 pm
The drive from Lohajung to Dehradun will be in a non-AC vehicle. If you are planning to pick up your child from Dehradun Airport, please be there by 3 pm. If you are opting for chaperone services, the chaperones will accompany your child till Bangalore/Mumbai airport. Please note: The distance between campsites may vary by 100 meters depending on the weather conditions and the route you take. The altitude may also vary by 100 feet for similar reasons.
Packing List
Given below is a list of all the gear your child needs for the Himalayan Trekking Summer Camps:
If you don’t have certain items, you can rent high-quality gear like trekking shoes, backpacks, and jackets from the Crosstrek Rental Store by Indiahikes. It costs less than Rs 2000 for the entire trek. We highly recommend renting gear since it is both more affordable and environmentally friendly.
Additionally, you’ll notice a small medical kit in the list. While our trek leaders carry medical kits with 17 medicines including life-saving drugs, your child can carry a personal medical kit as well. We are already equipped with BP machines, oximeters and canned oxygen, but your child's medical kit is for quick access to them, especially while travelling.
Most importantly, mandatory documents must be digitally uploaded and carried to get government permits for the trek. Keeping them in a plastic bag to keeps them safe in your child's backpack. There are no printing or photocopy facilities at the basecamp.

At Indiahikes, safety is non‑negotiable.
Over the years, more than 8,000 school students have trekked with us — without a single untoward incident. This comes from our robust Risk Assessment and Management System, built on three pillars: People, Processes, and Equipment.
- People: Our Trek Leaders are certified mountaineers with a Basic Mountaineering Course or Advanced Mountaineering Course. Trek Leaders assigned to lead summer camps are Wilderness First Responders (WFR) and NOLS certified. They have led several Himalayan treks, ranging from moderate-difficult to difficult treks. All our mountain staff too have gone through extensive training to handle emergencies. Additionally for our summer camps, women staff members compulsorily accompany every group of children.
- Processes: For over a decade, it is our water-tight safety process that has mitigated all kinds of risks — ranging from health-related and medical risks to outdoor risks. This process includes our initial safety check-in at the base camp, our thrice-a-day health checks, our medical protocol in case of any symptoms. Additionally, all risks associated with the programme are analysed in advance and a risk mitigation plan is developed. Every possible risk is properly planned for. Processes have been put in place for all common emergency scenarios. Our staff are trained to follow these processes stringently.
- Equipment: Most modern safety equipment regularly used on treks in India were introduced by Indiahikes. We have safety equipment of the highest standards. On the trek, the trek group will carry a fully equipped safety and medical kit, evacuation kit and technical gear kit. This provides support for the team to handle any emergency in a proficient way.

We serve simple, nutritious vegetarian food at our summer camps. You can expect roti, subzi, dal and rice at every meal, along with some surprise desserts! Since the group comprises mostly of children, the food will be on the less spicy side.
All our meals are prepared freshly at every campsite by our kitchen teams. We go to great lengths to ensure that the food is healthy, sustainable and fresh. So avoid sending food with your children. As for packaged snacks, they are banned on our treks.
We do have options of Jain food / vegan food upon request and also adjust menu to accomodate allergies.
At the basecamps of Raithal, Lohajung and Karchi, children will be staying in Swiss tents (in dorm-style beds). These tents will be separate for boys and girls.
At campsites, children will be staying in 3-sharing tents. These are comfortable tents that will keep the ambient temperature much warmer than the outside temperature. These will also be separate for boys and girls.
Each child will be provided with sleeping bags and hygiene liners at all campsites, which they will sleep inside.
Indiahikes will provide sleeping bags, tents and any snow equipment required for children.
We would recommend renting out the rest of the gear from our store for your children.
Children will need comfortable trekking shoes, jackets, backpacks, trekking poles and headlamps for the trek. We do not recommend buying these, since it becomes too expensive.
(Please note: Rentals will open around 45 days before the start date of the trek)
You can expect snow from March till mid-April. The snow slowly reduces during this period, giving rise to springtime greenery.
The higher reaches, especially the summit climb, will have snow. We will be giving children microspikes to attach to their shoes to get traction in snow. They will also be given gaiters in case the snow level is above their ankles. Our technical team will be with them throughout these sections to guide them.
This video about our safety equipment on every trek will also give you a clear picture of the safety you can expect for your child.
You will not be able to contact your child on the phone, since these are remote areas without mobile network. You will, however, be able to stay in touch with the Indiahikes team. Our team is in continuous touch with the whole team through radio communication / walkie talkies and will be able to share updates with you.

The itinerary will not match date-to-date since the regular treks are shorter than summercamps. You will have extra days in hand. You could stay back at the basecamp at separate accommodations or stay at a central location like Rishikesh and wait it out. If you're very keen, it's a viable option to consider.
Having said that, you could also consider a family trek (where parents and children trek together) for the younger child, and a summercamp for the older child.
Our family treks are specially designed for parents to trek along with their children. You'll find all information about it here - https://indiahikes.com/family-trek-page
The best age for children to camp is between 8-16 years. This is a golden period where they absorb learnings like sponges. They pick-up not only outdoor skills, which remain an intrinsic memory for them, but also soft skills of team work, empathy and conflict resolution. In addition to all this, it instills an immense amount of confidence and resilience in the kids,
If you're sending your children on a summer camp, we recommend starting from the age of 10. For 8-9 year olds, staying away from family for 9-10 days is still very difficult. This is why our summer camps are designed for ages 10+.
The fee for the trekking summer camp is Rs 22,500. This includes all travel, food, and accommodation from Dehradun to Dehradun. You will find a detailed breakdown of the trek fee on each trek page.
The minimum number of registrations is 10. Usually, all our summer camp groups go full. If we do not have enough enrolment, we will be transferring the trekkers to the nearest possible date (or any date of your choice) and shall be open for a full refund if the family wants to cancel.
At campsites, we do have Bio toilets to attend nature calls. While out in the wild, children are taught how to dig a cat hole the relieve themselves the natural way. Children are instructed to inform their coordinator and we find a suitable spot to relieve themselves and wait for them to come back.
No. Chaperoning is an add-on.
We provide chaperoning services from Mumbai and Bangalore to Dehradun. We offer a two-way chaperoning service from Bangalore and Mumbai to Dehradun for a fee of Rs 4000 per child. Please fill this form to book Indiahikes Chaperone Services for your child.
Chaperone services involve the employment of manpower and the costs attached to it. Hence, we have limited it to the Major cities like Bangalore and Mumbai only. If we have more requests from the city we might provide one. You can drop your child at any of these two cities (closest to you).
The Indiahikes Spirit of Trekking
We're always ready for adventure
Trekking comes with uncertainty. Weather, terrain, and setbacks are part of the journey. We embrace them with resilience and openness—each challenge makes us stronger and more appreciative of nature's beauty.
We embrace low-noise trekking
We blend into nature, not the other way around. We avoid shouting, loud music, and noisy games. In silence, we hear birdsong, streams, and the wind—inviting peace, reflection, and a deeper connection with nature.
We protect the environment
We protect the environment by minimising waste, reusing resources, and picking up litter. We carry eco-bags, segregate waste, and inspire others to preserve trails. Sustainable trekking ensures these mountains remain beautiful for future generations.
We are self-sufficient
We carry our load as much as possible, manage our gear, and stay prepared for all situations. Self-sufficiency builds confidence, independence, and respect for fellow trekkers, support staff, and the trail itself.
We support each other
Trekking is not a solo act. We wait for each other, share burdens, and uplift teammates. By putting the group first, we build strong bonds and help everyone complete the trek joyfully.
We are fit and prepared
We train well before our treks. This helps us walk longer, handle emergencies, and contribute to the team. Fitness ensures we are never a burden and always ready to help when needed.
